The Lost and the Furious

Big Yellow Nasty celebrity news wire

ABC's Lost may very well be the best show on television today, and the new season's been solid. But some critics are saying that the newest cast additions, a group of survivors from the tail of the plane who wound up on the other side of the island and were systematically picked off by the "Others" until they were all bitter and paranoid, are bringing the show down.

Arizona Republic TV critic Bill Goodykoontz, says he doesn't want any more backstory on Ana-Lucia, played by Michelle Rodriguez, better known as Vin Diesel's girlfriend from The Fast and the Furious.

Here's some funny news if you don't like the Lost star: she and who-cares costar Cynthia Watros were arrested in Hawaii for allegedly driving under the influence. According to Hawaii state law, drinking and driving is a violation of the 'aloha spirit.' Where better to read the story than ABC News?

When asked to comment on the situation, Rodriguez said, "I smell ... skanks. Why don't you girls just pack it up before I leave tread marks on your face?"

Okay, that was actually from her character, Letty, in The Fast and the Furious.

Does this incident mean we'll get to see more Emilie de Ravin and Dominic Monaghan on Lost? We can only hope. As it stands, it has yet to be determined if a conviction would jeopardize Rodriguez's status as No. 10 sexiest woman in HDTV. BYN speculates she'll get bumped for Evangeline Lilly.

In the meantime, here's a better Fast and the Furious quote to hold you over:
You almost had me? You never had me - you never had your car... Granny shiftin' not double clutchin' like you should. You're lucky that hundred shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake!
- Dom (Vin Diesel), The Fast and the Furious

The "tailies" provide the show, I think, with the fresh blood it not only needed but many of us never really expected. The writers seem to have trapped themselves in the once-brilliant concept of having (nearly) every episode revolve primarily around one character whose flashbacks we see, and there are only so many of those that are going to a) illuminate important aspects of the character's history, b) tie thematically into their current crisis, c) connect the dots to the strange happenings on the islands, or d) be entertaining before the audience gets sick of it. It's kind of like how the writers of "South Park" quite obviously got tired very quickly of having to shoehorn in a reason for Kenny to die every episode, and after a while threw the concept out the window. So either we have endless flashbacks to Sawyer being an asshole or Jack being dreamy, or introduce new characters to fill out the space.

But that's not all. I for one am dying to hear the backstory of the heroic Mr. Ecko, or see his first real conversation with fellow spiritualist Locke. And seeing Sam "Holland Manners from 'Angel'" Anderson finally re-united with his wife Rose, well, it just gave me a big ol' boy vagina. I like the fact that the black-haired tailie who disappeared while they were crossing the river was the flight attendant who gave Jack the booze in the very first episode. And I'm puzzled by the hate for Ana Lucia (all true movie geeks should still be bowing down to Michelle Rodriguez for her breakout role in "Girlfight, incidentally), known to smarmy Internet whiners as "AnaL", a well-written and acted character. She's had to deal with the stress of leadership in ways much worse than Jack has had to-- of COURSE she's acting like such a bitch. What's up with her becoming the new Jar Jar Binks?

Anyway, in conclusion, I think too much about TV.

Eric, while you make some good statements about Lost in your comment I must point out that every character that Michelle Rodriguez plays is a tough bitch of a girl. Keeping this in mind, acting well as you put it as Ana Lucia, is not a stretch from her real life tough bitch of girl who is hard drinking and driving. Granted Lost can get a bit old, Shannon and Sayid had their time in the sun, so Ana Lucia of course had to kill Shannon and end that. Although it was great to see the husband and wife finally reunited and meet the mysterious Mr. Ecko, who is this other woman, the other drunk driving arrestee? It seems she just is another filler charcter to even out the boy girl ratio. I will say this much, Ana Lucia is no Kate. Jack better recognize there is no choice of either or, Ana Lucia is a biatch!

In conclusion, I have issues with bitches....oh yeah and as well watch too much TV.

New theory: The plane crashed because Michelle Rodriguez's character was piloting it - drunk. Damn, that girl loves her tequila and tonics.
Maybe we won't have to keep hoping that The Others eat her. Maybe Rodriguez will do herself in and take AnaL with her.

    'Lost' star pays traffic tickets

WAHIAWA, Hawaii - Michelle Rodriguez, who stars on ABC's "Lost," has settled two traffic cases as she awaits a court hearing on a drunken driving charge - her fourth alleged traffic violation since she joined the cast this season.

Rodriguez, who plays police officer Ana Lucia on the TV adventure-drama, was fined $357 for a speeding violation Tuesday after her lawyer entered a no-contest plea on her behalf. She was cited for driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone on Oahu on Nov. 1.

The 27-year-old actress also paid a $300 fine for an earlier traffic offense on the island. She was cited for driving 90 mph in a 35 mph zone on Oct. 20.

Previously, Rodriguez was fined $197 for going 80 mph in a 50 mph zone on Aug. 24.

Rodriguez and "Lost" co-star Cynthia Watros are scheduled to appear Dec. 29 in Kaneohe District Court on alleged drunk driving charges. They were driving separate cars when they were arrested Dec. 1 within 15 minutes of each other in Kailua.

In June 2004, Rodriguez pleaded no contest in Los Angeles to three traffic violations - hit and run, drunken driving and driving with a suspended license.

She completed a three-month alcohol program and is now serving a three-year probation term.
